Here’s a few highlights from the big PPA event in Mesa, AZ last weekend.

Johns Over Staksrud: In the Men’s finals, Ben Johns reasserted himself in the pickleball world with a straight-set victory (11-8, 11-4) over Federico Staksrud. This marks Johns's first singles title of the year, signaling a return to form. Despite the setback, Staksrud, the world's #2 and a rising threat since going pro in 2021, is not to be underestimated, with his eyes set on future clashes.

Staksrud's Stellar Season: Federico Staksrud has been on fire in 2024, securing a Gold at the Desert Ridge Open and a Silver in the PPA Hyundai Masters' Men's Pro Singles. With a series of remarkable achievements under his belt, Staksrud's journey is one to watch closely.

Waters' Winning Streak Continues: Anna Leigh Waters dazzled once more, with another gold in the women’s singles against Mary Brascia with easy scores. Not stopping there, she also snagged gold in mixed doubles with Ben Johns and in women’s doubles, edging closer to her 100th gold medal with 23 triple crowns now in her possession.

At just 17, Anna Leigh Waters is undefeated in women’s doubles since 2022 and consistently outperforming the competition. She remains the one to beat.

Looking Ahead: As the pickleball season progresses, the anticipation for more matchups between these phenomenal athletes grows. Will Staksrud challenge Johns's reign? Can anyone disrupt Waters's?
