New Selkirk Paddle, Pro Player Tip, & Pickleball Team USA?
Thoughts from Dennis Rodriguez on the new Selkirk
(Picture Dennis Rodriguez)
The Selkirk Amped Pro Air is a looker. It’s got a big sweet spot, so even if you’re not hitting dead center every time, your shots stay pretty consistent. The surface has good spin if you like mixing up your shots. Plus, it’s super lightweight, so it’s easy to maneuver. Now, on the downside, (not really a downside) the paddle’s edges can get scratched easily since it doesn't have an edge guard. It’s a minor concern, but something to keep in mind if you’re tough on your gear. Overall, I think it’s worth checking out if you are looking for an all purpose paddle.
Backhand Flick Tip from James Ignatowich
Hey everyone, let’s talk about the backhand flick. It’s different from a backhand roll, which uses more arm movement. The backhand flick relies mainly on your wrist, allowing you to meet the ball further in front. This makes it great for attacking more balls. However, it can be tougher to control, especially on low dinks. For a good backhand flick, get low and meet the ball at net height or slightly higher, keeping your body low to maintain control and power. More tips here.
Question from David Boyle
Seeing the American flags at the 2024 Minto US Open Championships in Naples got me thinking about Team USA if pickleball becomes an Olympic sport. It's bound to happen, just give it time. The players on the MLP-PPA tour are the best of the best. Some are medalists, while others are promising newcomers giving top players a run for their money. Picture yourself as the recruiter, picking the best for men's and women's singles, mixed doubles, and doubles. Would you choose based on skill alone, or would popularity sway you? Could you consider a charismatic player over a more accomplished one? With so much talent and many factors to weigh, it’s a fun challenge to imagine creating a pro pickleball dream team. Now, who would you pick to represent Team USA? Full article here.
